They effectively whitened the teeth by about three to four shades, and we also appreciate that the kit comes with extra strips for touch-ups down the line. In addition to being comfortable for people with sensitive teeth, we love how simple and easy they are to apply. She was able to use them for the directed 30 minutes a day for seven consecutive days. However, these strips claim to cause “zero sensitivity,” and according to one of our testers with extremely sensitive teeth, the claim is accurate-these were the first whitening strips ever that she could use for the allotted time frame. Those with sensitive teeth know just how painful trying to whiten them can be-for some, the burning and sensitivity are so strong that they’re unable to finish the whitening process. These strips tout a unique technology that ensures they gradually dissolve after you apply them. Our team then combined these results with expert recommendations and our own thorough research to narrow down the list of available options. Our testers used these strips for the full treatment time (about a week or two), noting how easy they were to apply, how comfortable they felt, how well they whitened and brightened their smiles, and whether or not they caused any sensitivity. So, to find the best options on the market, we put more than a dozen options to the test. At the end of the day, strips are a great first step into the world of tooth whitening and can be used to maintain the results of professional treatments, adds Dr. Other pros include the convenience factor, not to mention that strips are generally a very wallet-friendly whitening option. While there’s no shortage of over-the-counter and professional whitening options ranging from pens to gels to trays, whitening strips offer one of the easiest ways to score pearly (or, at the very least, pearlier) whites.īecause these strips break down stains chemically rather than scrub them off with abrasive ingredients (like whitening toothpaste), they can be less detrimental in the long run for people with sensitive teeth or gum recession, explains cosmetic dentist Dr. If you’ve been wishing your smile was a little brighter, you’re not alone. I think it’s great that we’re keeping it local.”īevelheimer told aldermen the Mid-Town Business District was created because the EAVs (equalized assessed values) were declining. “But I do support the use of these dollars for the project. I originally voted against it,” said Jeff Bergman, R-2. “I did not support the idea of having this tax. Bevelheimer said the commitment to Marx’s property means funds raised by the Mid-Town Business District are accounted for through May 2023. The first expenditure of Mid-Town Business District funds was a $100,000 commitment to Cullinan Properties for the replacement of the roof on the Quincy Medical Group building at the Quincy Town Center. That fund is currently generating about $14,000 per month in tax revenue, Bevelheimer said. The Mid-Town Business District, formed in March 2021, places a 1 percent retail sales tax on businesses in an area bordered by Broadway, College, 30 th Street and 36 th Street. I just want to thank Tom Marx for taking a chance.” You’re gonna see some real development in the corner of 30 th and Broadway. Following up on the progress of (the construction of a Target at) 36th and Broadway, I know there are a lot of happy momma bears. Not that I agree we should be messing with retail, but we need jobs. This was an opportunity to help him with the project and hopefully more. “Tom’s spent a lot of development work, and this program’s available. “It’s a good project and, I think I speak for the entire finance committee, we felt strongly,” Farha said Monday. His request for funding was warmly welcomed during last week’s Finance Committee meeting, chaired by Mike Farha, R-4. He also said property owner Tom Marx will build the new retail building to the south of the former County Market grocery store, which is being converted into a Planet Fitness. QUINCY - The Quincy City Council approved a resolution during Monday night’s meeting to enter into a Mid-Town Business District redevelopment agreement with the Charles & Kathie Marx Trust to put $200,000 toward the construction of 6,000 square feet of retail space for three businesses on the northeast corner of 30th and Broadway.Ĭhuck Bevelheimer, director of planning and development, said after the meeting that one of the three businesses will be a Verizon cellphone store. In 1919, when Houdini was making the two movies for Lasky Pictures, he and Bess rented a cottage at 2435 Laurel Canyon Boulevard. The home is valued at $675,000 as of fall 2011. There is a plaque on the building honoring Harry Houdini, but there is also a fence preventing unwanted visitors from bothering the residents. Today, the building has been partially restored, and is still rented as apartments. Bess sold the house in 1927, and in the years since then, it has been both a private residence as well as an apartment house for nearby Columbia University students. Houdini lived in this home until his death in 1926. (Much of his collection now belongs to the Library of Congress.) Houdini enjoyed his library so much that he operated his office right in the center of it, seated at an ornate carved desk that was fitted with secret compartments. Houdini's library was his pride and joy, eventually, his collection would have an estimated worth of $500,000. The home was lavishly furnished, and stocked with a library of thousands of books. He also had his initials installed as part of the floor tile design in the bathroom the tiles are still there today. Reportedly, Houdini had a large sunken bathtub installed so that he could practice his underwater escapes. The 6008 square foot home gave Houdini a lot of room for both a living space and a huge upstairs office. The house was built in 1895, but for some reason never completely finished an occupied until Houdini purchased it. At the time, the neighborhood was predominantly occupied by newly-prosperous German Jews, and Houdini fit right in. For $25,000, he purchased a large brownstone at 278 West 113th Street, in what is now called Morningside Heights. In 1904, Harry Houdini was successful enough to be able to afford a home in New York City. The host customer achieves required long-duration power availability while reducing its costs for emergency backup through grid stability services.įleet operators also expect new load growth from transportation to be satisfied with net-zero emissions sources. This virtuous ecosystem benefits the local business and broader community. The revenue from these grid services reduces the costs for resiliency, making dual-purpose microgrids more affordable. They also provide service to grid operators, generating cost-offsetting revenue streams. Many companies, including mine, are building microgrids to serve power needs. These services help support grid stability and lower costs for EV charging site. The dual-purpose is power resiliency for the owner of an EV charging site and revenue-generating grid stability services for the larger grid. They are a local power generation platform that can overcome long-duration power outages, while also providing needed grid stability services. However, that potential is limited by current grid pricing structures that remain slow to change.įortunately, dual-purpose microgrids can help address grid reliability challenges, the need for additional local power capacity and cost management. Taking advantage of digital technologies, the exchange of data between grid, vehicle and charging infrastructure can be used to increase the efficiency of the transportation and energy sectors. Many aren’t designed to access the value EVs can provide the grid through smart charging and vehicle grid integration technologies, which use the flexibility of EV charging loads to provide ancillary grid services ranging from demand response to frequency regulation. Many utility rate structures can also penalize the load profiles EV charging creates, which leads to increased costs and challenges for commercial EV charging-site hosts. That creates significant uncertainties for fleet managers. New substations are needed, which could take two to four years to design and build. The time it takes to boost local capacity - anywhere from a few months to several years - must be considered. More investments in modernization are needed to meet demand. To add to this, there are a number of gamemodes for players to try out that add a bit of extra variety to keep things interesting. Trailmakers is a creative vehicle-building rally racing sandbox, set on a distant planet where players have the freedom to create the vehicle of their dreams. Part Lego, part Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, players will make their own fun by building cool and wacky vehicles to traverse the game’s various terrains. These give you more blocks to play around with, and a cycle of looting and upgrading quickly takes hold. As you begin to travel much greater distances in your first vehicle you’ll find scrap resources across the world. Your only real goal is to immediately start exploring and building your first vehicle. The ‘story’ of the game is that you start on a barren planet with little much to do. Story? What Story?įans of narrative games may not find much here since Trailmakers emphasises the player’s own creativity rather than any pre-made story. All you need to do is explore the Steam Workshop to see some of the insane vehicles that are possible to make with Trailmaker’s ingenious building mechanics. The vehicle mechanics are simple to pick up but offer almost limitless fun and experimentation. While once in early access, the game now boasts a full release with tons of content to explore. All players need to do is simply click blocks together to make basic ideas, and the intuitive vehicle creator makes fairly complex construction very simple from there. While creatively a bit banal, the familiarity gives an instant sense of understanding of how players can quickly make the ideas in their heads a reality. The blocks that make up the vehicles that players will build have an unmistakable resemblance to Lego. Rather than adopting a first-person view like Minecraft, Trailmakers is third person, giving the world a much wider feeling, which works much better with the game’s focus on vehicular mechanics. The game operates using a very similar style where you control a small character that can build structures out of individual blocks. With a focus on counting-by and patterns in multiplication facts, students complete a variety of activities to help them increase their number sense and master their multiplication (and as a by-product, their addition facts will be more solid!). If you know it’s time for a fresh approach to helping your students master their multiplication facts, Multiplication Facts Intervention Activities may be just what you are looking for! Not to mention, the slow down in learning those other concepts when students don’t know and demonstrate confidence with their multiplication facts can actually create the belief that a student is “not good at math” when the truth is lack of multiplication fact fluency is holding them back. Multiples of 10 are always even because 10 is even (therefore, many groups of 10 will remain even.) This also means that multiples of 10 are divisible by 2.Īll multiples of 10 are also divisible by 5.Īs math teachers (and perhaps parents reading this), we all want our students to have their multiplication facts ready to whip out in a snap! We know in our hearts that if multiplication facts are not on solid ground, most other concepts we’ll want to teach in 4th grade, 5th grade, and beyond will be more challenging to master. You need to end the call, make a new group that includes the new participant, and start a new call.ĭuo's standout feature is augmented reality effects, and it goes a long way in making calls more entertaining. The one downside to using Duo for group calls is that there's no way to add a participant to an ongoing call. I've made dozens of calls over the last two months on Duo to talk to family members across the globe, and every call was thoroughly enjoyable. However, because it now facilitates group video calls with 12 participants, it is an excellent option for staying connected to friends and family. Google Duo isn't great for work meetings, but it is a great way to stay connected to friends and family.Īs such, Duo just isn't suited to be a video conferencing platform. One of the best things about Duo is the video fidelity - the service works great even on 2G cellular connections. The service is designed for mobile use, and it uses the WebRTC standard to deliver excellent video quality without taking up too much bandwidth. Google Duo is meant for one-on-one communication. Source: Harish Jonnalagadda / Android Central (Image credit: Source: Harish Jonnalagadda / Android Central) Google Duo is the best mobile video calling service around All you need is a Google account to initiate a Meet call. Although Meet is designed for business use, it works great for family gatherings and hosting game nights. That's still better than what you get with Zoom, and if you're looking for an alternative, Meet should be at the top of your list. After that, free users will be limited to 60 minutes for each meeting. So, when can you start using Meet if you're not a G Suite user? Google is rolling out the service to everyone over the coming weeks, and Meet will be free with no limits on usage until September. I've dialed into weekly calls using my phone or relied on cellular data when I was traveling, and Meet worked just fine in both instances. That's one of the best reasons to use Meet instead of a service like Zoom or WebEx, which requires you to download a plugin. That's where a service like Google Meet is invaluable.īecause Meet works natively in a browser, it's easy to connect to meetings regardless of the operating system we use. We have team members scattered across the globe, and we use disparate operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Chrome OS. All of us work remotely, and therefore we don't get a lot of chances to meet in person. We rely on Meet for our weekly planning calls here at Android Central, and it has served us reliably over the years. The meetings themselves are encrypted, and if you record a meeting, the corresponding file that's stored in Google Drive is also encrypted. There's no way for someone to join your meeting without your authorization, so it's not possible for someone to gate-crash a meeting. The best part about Google Meet is security. With encryption and robust collaboration tools, Meet is perfect for meetings and family gatherings. You can delve into the settings for more customization options - including the ability to change the layout - but for the most part, Meet is as about as easy as things get for video conferencing solutions. There's a bottom bar with options to mute audio or toggle video, and options to turn on captions, and share your screen. You can also easily record meetings, and the interface itself is easy to get acquainted with. Source: Android Central (Image credit: Source: Android Central) You can also set up your video and audio settings with ease, and if you're worried about bandwidth, there's an option to lower the video resolution for both incoming and outgoing video. A grid layout makes it easier to see and interact with everyone on the call, and you can easily configure layout options. In addition to making Meet free for everyone, Google added a grid layout for video calls, just like Zoom. Google doesn't charge an extra fee for those calling in from their phones. Participants can join over audio or video, and Meet also has easy call-in options. If the invitees have a Google account, the meeting is automatically added to their Google Calendar. Meet has email integration, so inviting participants is as easy as going through your contacts list and inviting colleagues to attend a meeting. Meet was limited to Google's G Suite customers, but the service is now available for free for everyone to use. Meet has everything you're looking for in a video conferencing platform. You also get all the features that are standard for a business-focused video conferencing solution: the ability to share screens, call-in from a phone, email integration, and collaboration tools. Meet is primarily designed for large-scale meetings, and you can easily set up meetings with up to 250 people on the platform. Source: Google (Image credit: Source: Google) |
